Why did we choose this product?

People with advanced dementia can become more isolated, agitated, and anxious. Currently, there are very few products that can bring them comfort, bring them closer together, and give them meaning. Designed by a group of researchers from Cardiff Metropolitan University, HUG has been specially developed for people with moderate or advanced dementia.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HUG washable?

Yes, it is washable. Simply follow these steps:

• Remove the electronic unit (side zipper).
• Remove the inner cushion and spray it with disinfectant.
• Place the outer cover in the mesh bag provided.
• Wash the cover in the washing machine on delicate cycle.
• Let HUG dry naturally and do not iron it.

How can I add music to HUG?

Please note that when you purchase a HUG, there is no pre-recorded music. You will need to add your own music. Here's how to do it:

• Turn on the device's heartbeat
• Plug the supplied USB cable into the device and connect it to your computer's USB port.
  
• The device appears as a "player" on your computer.
• Add your MP3 music files to the player.
• Once done, safely eject the device from your computer and unplug the cable.
• Turn the Heartbeat off and on again, and the music will play.

To stream music via Bluetooth:

• Turn on the Heartbeat
• Press and release the Bluetooth button
• Search for HUG in your phone's Bluetooth menu and connect. The HUG unit then acts as a speaker and allows you to stream your music via your device/streaming account.
• Only one device can be connected to the HUG unit at a time.
• Press and release the Bluetooth button to switch between modes.

Can I have the heartbeat without music on my HUG?

Yes. You can have only the heartbeat by turning on the heartbeat and turning down the volume.

Can I use HUG if I have a pacemaker?

We do not recommend using the HUG electronic device for pacemaker wearers.

Is it possible to skip songs on HUG?

You can only skip from one song to another if you are using Bluetooth.
