What is a vanilla pod?

Vanilla is a spice. It comes from the fruit of certain tropical orchids.

The Papua vanilla pods are flexible, black*, fleshy, glossy, fragrant and unplit pods. They are soft to the touch.

Their aromatic profile consists of almond and spice notes, powdery and fruity.

What can you do with a vanilla pod?

Ideal for all types of pastry work: creams, biscuits, ice cream, mousses, entremets…

Vanilla pods can also be used in your savoury recipes: vanilla pairs very well with shellfish, poultry and pork.

How to use a vanilla pod?

Use it as is. Vanilla pods can be used in any type of application, cold or hot, savoury or sweet.

Dosage according to your taste, desired intensity and preferences.

Recommended dosage: 1 to 3 pods per litre of preparation (adjust according to application).

How to prepare the vanilla pod?

To use a vanilla pod properly, cut it in half, then split each half lengthwise.

Then, using the back of a knife blade, scrape the pods to extract the black seeds.

You can add them to your preparation.

What to do with empty vanilla pods?

After emptying them, you can add the vanilla pods to your preparation with the seeds to give even more flavour.

Or you can reuse them in different ways:

  • As an infusion in milk or liquid cream,
  • To make flavoured rum,
  • To make vanilla oil,
  • To make vanilla sugar,
  • To make vanilla powder,
  • To make liquid vanilla extract.

How to store vanilla pods?

Store away from light, at room temperature, in its original hermetically sealed packaging. Avoid significant and repeated temperature shocks.

After opening, the vanilla pod can be stored until the end of its shelf life, at room temperature, in a hermetically sealed container such as a glass jar or tin box.
